Hala Pepe

STATUS:    Endemic

APPEARANCE:  This small to medium sized tree, 5-6m tall, grows from 300 to 900 meters in elevation.  There are six varieties of Hala Pepe, the one pictured is Pleomele Hawaiiensis.  It is rare.

Flower: Appear in leafy pouch, then come out perfect, numerous, solitary or in clusters arranged in terminal panicles. Colors range from green to white and yellow orange.  Seeds are initially brown and turn orange at maturity.

Leaves: 25cm long, 2.5cm wide.
