Plant categorization
Endangered – A plant that is federally classified under the Endangered Species Act (ESA) and is in immediate danger of extinction throughout all or a significant portion of its range.
Endemic – Plants found only in a specific location and nowhere else in the world. Hawaii has 1,093 known endemic plants which grow only in Hawaii naturally.
Indigenous – A plant occurring naturally in one location, such as the Hawaiian islands, and naturally in other locations as well.
